Geometry Project - Grades K-3 - Guide These drawings were intended for use by teachers and student of grades K-3. They match the geometry terminology needed for each grade level. Some words are repeated at different grade levels, so there is some review from grade to grade. The drawings are intended to accommodate integration of technology into the field of mathematics but could also be used in mathematics without the integration of technology. Handwriting practice integrated with mathematics could also be accomplished. The basic drawings are intended as resource material for teachers and students. Teachers could use the drawings to guide lessons in the classroom. They could be made into overhead transparencies, for example. Students could keep the drawings as a resource in their binders. Ideally, students will make the drawings with a computer. The templates, with and without directions, could be used in a variety of ways. The template with directions is intended to guide teachers and students to draw the framework for the figures in a computer drawing environment, such as Appleworks Draw. However, these directions could also facilitate drawing the framework with pencil, paper, and ruler in a classroom setting. The template without directions could be copied for student use if the focus were to draw the shapes freehand (or with ruler and compass). The drawings with the lettering w/o drawing as part of the title are intended to be used in a computer-assisted setting, using Appleworks Draw. The intention here is that students would open a file with the framework already built with the text labels already created at the bottom of each frame. Students could create the images for each frame then simply drag the appropriate piece of text into place. This would be ideal for students who had no keyboarding skills but were learning how to work in the draw environment with a computer. The drawings with the lettering w/o text as a part of the title are intended to be used where recognition of the geometry shapes has already been established. Examples would be for students to work on handwriting skills, printing and/or cursive, or perhaps for a spelling test which also requires knowledge of appropriate placement of the words on a page. These drawings are added to the Wenatchee School District website as pdf files for other district staff to view and print. Please contact your building TRT if youd like the original computer files to use in a computer setting. This would be especially appropriate for the w/o drawings files.
