- Child chooses step 4
- Teacher tells child he/she has chosen a step
4 for ...,.....
- Child goes to a chair (or the teacher uses the
floor) and sits facing away from the class. (looks like step
1)
- Teacher fills out step 4 slip
- Calls office and tells secretary
that the child will be down to the office because he/she has
chosen a step 4 for .........
- Teacher sends child to office with
the step 4 slip
- Child brings step 4 slip to secretary.
- Secretary calls child's
parent and asks child if he/she needs assistance talking to parent.
- Secretary
listens to child's phone call and helps with telling parent why
they need to come to school for a step 4 conference
- Secretary
notes on slip that parent has been called then calls buddy room
and tells that teacher that a step 4 is on it's way.
- Child goes
to buddy room and waits for parent to arrive. *Note: child travels
with buddy room anywhere they are going (i.e. specialist, lunch,
etc.) *Note: if the child interferes at all, they should be sent
to the office with a note saying they were interfering with the
class while on step 4. Administrator must make the call; (in
otherwords - is it more than a step 4 now?) however, the appropriate
action is to send the child home on a Step 5 for the remainder
of the day. The student then returns the next morning with their
parent and must have a successful step 4 conference before being
allowed back in class.
- Parent arrives at school and goes to office.
Office personnel send (office may want to call the teacher on
the phone to let them know the parent is on their way)
the parent to the teacher with whom the child chose a step
4. This it to allow the teacher to talk to the parent about
the Step 4 before the parent talks to the child.
- Teacher
calls office to request the office notify the buddy room and
have the child sent to where the parent and teacher are waiting
for them.
- Child travels from buddy room to where the parent and
teacher are waiting for them.
- Step 4 takes place between the parent & child
with the teacher acting as the child's helper.
- Parent decides
if the step 4 conference is successful and if their child is
ready to return to their classroom. If 'yes', child
returns to class with a copy of the step 4
slip. If 'no', parent takes child home (checks
them out in office) then returns the next morning
to attempt a successful step 4 conference before
the child is allowed back in class.
**Note: if the step 4 happens when the child is not with their
classroom teacher (i.e. specialist, recess, etc.), the classroom
teacher should be called by the office when the child arrives
there with their step 4 slip so the classroom teacher will
know their student is accounted for. |
