WHAT'S NEW?

AutumnNewsletter returns
Welcome to our first newsletter of the year. There will be three words that we hope describe this newsletter: fun, fun and fun.

Of course we want it to be informative, but in a fun way. We want this to be a publication that our employees look forward to reading. We want to use this publication to recognize the employees in the district for whatever reason you think they should be recognized. It could be something they have done in the community, the classroom, or the kitchen.

We want this to be a participative newsletter where you, the employees, provide the information and we simply see that it is available for all staff to read and enjoy. We also want to give this publication a new name and need your assistance.

E-mail Kevin at bredesen.k@mail.wsd.wednet.edu with your stories, comments, suggestions and ideas. Thank you in advance for your suggestions for a name for this publication. Just one prerequisite: have fun.

Staff immunization clinic begins soon
Tuesday, November 30th
Foothill Middle School Library
2:45 - 4:30 p.m.

This is the last scheduled WSD opportunity to complete your vaccinations. Please bring your insurance card with you to Foothills.

With the shortage of flu vaccine this year, we need to remain diligent to prevent the spread of infection. Our best bet to keep flu from spreading in our schools is to keep those that may be contagious out of school.  When students or staff have flu symptoms, they should stay home until they have not had a fever for 24 hours and are not coughing significantly.  As always, to prevent the spread of any infection, wash your hands frequently. Good hand washing is our number one defense!!

If you have questions, please contact your school nurse.

NEW HIRES

New employee contest begins
Below, you will find pictures of some of the new employees in the Wenatchee School District. Below the photos, you will find the names of the new employees. You will notice that there are no names associated with the pictures. That is where you come in.

The district employee who is the first to provide the names of all these new employees will win a prize!

The first e-mail that Kevin receives with all the correct names will be the winner. His e-mail address is bredesen.k@mail.wsd.wednet.edu. Email him a list of numbers with the corresponding names.

Simply label each number with the corresponding name; you may use this form and attach it to your e-mail.. The deadline for the “Name the New Employee” contest will be November 19th.

If no one  successfully names all of the new employees pictured, the one who gets the most correct by the deadline will be the winner. The names of these employees and the winner will be identified in our next newsletter. District office personnel will not be able to participate in this contest. Have fun and thank you to all of our new employees who so graciously posed for the pictures.

New teachers share impressions
We asked some of our new teachers a few questions about their very first day in the classroom. Here is what they had to say.

  • What attracted you to the Wenatchee School District?

The support for teachers-i.e. coaches. Also the MYD program. And I love the TAPS program! Thank you for providing it to me.

The proximity to nature and family, the good nature of the middle school principals and the entire WSD staff.

I was a student in the Wenatchee School District from Kindergarten through Senior year. It feels like home to be back in the district, even though it is strange to be a teacher instead of a student this time around.

The area and the reputation of the school district.

I have the opportunity to be able to work in a high quality district in the same area I chose to live. Wenatchee’s special education department has the reputation for being a program leader in North Central Washington and a place where students are truly #1 and the ONLY reason we are here.

My wife teaches in Leavenworth.

The location and the level of the jobs available.
  • What aspect of teaching has been the most surprising to you?

Nothing yet! I know it is coming.

One of the most surprising aspects has been how challenging it is to get the students motivated to learn. I have had to really rethink my lessons to promote interest within the students.

I am amazed at the amount of support both within the school and through the district, as well as the parent and family involvement and support of the learning and classroom activities.

I was in education for many years; I then left for many. I still am surprised that educators do such a poor job of selling their products…that is, that what they do is so incredibly important and that they do such a good job of it. Many lay people see teachers as good people with a good heart but are quick to remember the few “poor” experiences that they had in school. Most teachers seem OK with the idea that teaching is a calling and not a job so they don’t “market” their efforts until levies come around.

Great kids!

Making a difference in the lives of young children. Giving them the tools to become successful citizens in the 21st century.

My husband and I moved here from Oklahoma because of his position at the hospital. I wanted to continue my teaching career in a district similar to mine in Oklahoma…. I am very fortunate to be a part of WSD and I feel right at home.
